Since SOME Of Us Have No Place To Goby: thistleroseFandom: Angel: the seriesRating: PGShip: allusions to past Angel/Buffy, otherwise ship-freeSummary: Cordelia spreads holiday cheer. And expects to be reimbursed, naturally.A/N: Proofread by reposoir. Thanks so much! Set sometime during the second half of season one. Approx. 1,600 words.( 'Yeesh, don't you have LESS important people to rescue?'Collapse )
Thanks so much to everyone who submitted prompts! We've got some good ones, from a variety of fandoms for a variety of holidays. Each prompt can be claimed twice. Whether we end up with two fics, two pieces of artwork, or one of each doesn't matter. Everyone has her own interpretation, so I don't think there's much chance of identical pieces. Some of these prompts could work in other fandoms. If you'd like to mix and match, go ahead.Stories should be at least 500 words in length. (Since pictures are worth 1000 words, does that mean they need only be half as good as they would be normally? /pointlessness) There's no maximum. You can post any time, but everything is due on Valentine's Day. Because that gives us lots of time and Valentine's Day is usually the most sucktastic holiday of all.Post anywhere you like, but please provide a link here at humbuggery. Please provide the following information when you post: fandom, title of story, your name, characters/ships, rating, brief summary. Please use a cut, regardless of length.Remember:1. This is about how holidays SUCK.2. Holidays suck, not the people who celebrate them.3. Don't stress! Have fun!( The PromptsCollapse )
So, twenty people have expressed an interest in a humbuggery challenge, so let's do it! Based on your preferences, the challenge will be:- open to all fandoms- fairly informal- open to all holidaysHere's how it will work. From now until Friday (October 20th) night, I'll be accepting prompts. Again, prompts can involve any character in any fandom. The one requirement is that they relate to why a particular holiday sucks (in general, or for a particular character or group of characters). I'm sure it goes without saying, but there will be no bashing. People (in general) don't suck; sometimes holidays do.You may submit as many prompts as you like. In fact, the more the better. I don't think there'll be a plethora of participants, so it's probably better to go with popular fandoms than obscure ones. But that doesn't mean you can't suggest an obscure one.Does that make sense?I'm compile your suggestions this weekend, and you can start claiming on Monday. The minimum word count will be 500. Due date will be Valentine's Day, so this challenge shouldn't interfere with other current ones.Any questions or suggestions? Drop me a comment.Start prompting!ETA: Artists are perfectly welcome, too! And you may submit a prompt even if you don't intend to claim one.ETA: When submitting prompts, use this format:Fandom:Prompt:Also, just to make things easier, try to avoid ship-centric prompts. When you choose a prompt, the story you write can be as shippy as you like. For example, an ideal prompt would be something like:Fandom: BuffyPrompt: Willow burns her fingers while cooking latkes for Hanukkah.Whoever claims the prompt can make it Willow/Tara, Willow/Kennedy, Willow/Xander, Willow/whoever, or shipless. Ship-centric prompts aren't forbidden, but please try to keep them to a minimum. It's just easier.
I haven't done much with this community in the year since its inception, but I'm thinking we ought to have a challenge of some sort this winter. If you haven't seen it already, there is a poll on my journal about the possibility. I'd like to hear your opinions.
GlimpseFandom: Harry PotterShip: Ginny/Luna, Anthony GoldsteinRating: RSummary: Hogwarts is full of Christmas cheer, but Anthony Goldstein feels out of place, so he retreats to the common room, which is not as empty as it first appears.A/N: For canicula12, who requested a ficlet involving Ginny/Luna, a thestral, the Quibbler, and a minor character. *g* It was tricky including all those elements! This also counts as one of my Hanukkah ficlets - the fifth. The theme for this one is, er, goyim friends, I guess. Set after HBP. Voyeurism. Approx. 1,100 words.( The Ravenclaw common room appeared deserted. )

Because shops are selling Christmas stuff in September. Because there are too damn many ways to spell Hanukkah/Chanukah/Chanukka. Because you don't have someone to kiss on New Years. Because the themes of Kwanzaa are hard to remember. Because you waited and waited but the Great Pumpkin never came. Because whoever invented Valentine's Day clearly doesn't like single people. Because you're sick of matzoh. Because they cut the turkey without you.Because sometimes holidays just SUCK.Welcome to humbuggery, an all-fandom, all-pairing, all-rating, all-holiday bitch fest dressed up like a fic fest.( Please read the rulesCollapse )
